The Class of 1969, at 522, was one of the largest graduating classes at Essex Catholic High School, and this year marks 50 years since we last set foot as students at 300 Broadway in Newark. Led by Bill Tortoriello ’69 and Phil Nufrio ’69, this special reunion weekend event will be held September 27-28 at the Jersey Shore.
Since 1988, the Newark Athletic Hall of Fame has been honoring the city’s past sports heroes and providing a means of focusing attention on Newark’s rich history, serving to encourage Newark’s young people to strive for their full potential as athletes and citizens. Current Essex Catholic members include Clifford Anderson, David Brown, Bill Cardone, Rick Cerone, John Dennis, Frederick DeVesa, Jack “Doc” Farrell, Bruno Giordano, Walter Krause, Marty Liquori, Mark Murro, Joseph Mastacchio, John O. Melody, Bob Molinaro, Larry Schumacher, Bruce Soriano, Stan Waldmore, Tim Walsh, Peter Westbrook and Al Wujiak. This year, coach/faculty member Anthony “Brother Nick” Naclerio and Varsity Baseball standout Tony Garcia ’76 will be inducted.
Since 1981, alumni, staff and friends of Essex Catholic High School have been gathering annually to reconnect, reminisce, and most important, support the Foundation’s scholarship fund and other charitable works. We will continue with our tradition of honoring outstanding members of the Essex Catholic community with induction into the Hall of Fame, which now numbers more than 200 individuals, plus several iconic athletic teams. The 2019 Alumni Dinner takes place on Saturday, November 23.
Join your fellow Essex Catholic alumni on Friday, December 13, 2019, at the Cloverleaf Tavern, Caldwell, N.J., for a festive afternoon of holiday spirit, Eagle-style!
